Liposculpture has been around in the aesthetic industry for almost 30 years now. It has become a treatment of choice for people who wants to trim the “stubborn” fats in their body without going through horrendous big surgery as liposuction does.

Liposculpture in plain English means “sculpturing of excess fats” as lipo means fats in the medical term. This treatment aims to help people who have difficulty in burning off their extra adipose tissue despite trying their hardest through lifestyle modification. This is because, in some people, the genetic traits they inherited may cause fats deposition in certain parts of the body which is hard to shed off. These areas are like the belly button, thighs, and buttocks.

The treatment for liposculpture is not a new breakthrough in the field of medicine but rather an evolution of the predecessor treatment of liposuction. It has been developed and refined over the years to maximize the outcome while providing less invasive and cleaner methods.

How is the procedure carried out?

Liposculpture is a type of minor surgery as it does not involve the use of general anaesthesia. The procedure involves the use of local anaesthetic solution together with additional medication such as adrenalin solution (to prevent excessive bleeding) into the fatty layer. The doctor then inserts a cannula which is a small tube into the injection site with to-and-fro movements or vibrations are then applied with some suctioning to remove the adipose (fatty) tissue layer.

The surgeon may also use some extra aids like the ultrasound probe to navigate during the procedure in order to be more precise in the selection of the fatty tissue. After carefully removing the fats from the patient’s body, the patient will be given a surgical pad at the injection area as well as a drain to remove excess fluids and blood. These are to ensure better recovery and prevent local swelling and infection which could harm the patient’s health.

Typically the surgical procedure would last approximately 1-2 hours depending on the skills of the surgeon, location on the body and if there are any complications before or during the surgery.

Although the surgery itself is a minor one, it is not exempted from potential side effects. Despite the low incidence of side effects recorded in many of the trials conducted, these complications do exist and are important to let the patients know through informed consent. Such complications are like allergic reactions to the anaesthetic substance, prolong swelling and redness and maybe infection at the surgical site and also rarely injury to nearby muscles or organs.

Patients are advised to try to lose as much weight as they can through diets and exercise programs tailored to them before undergoing this procedure. This is not just to ensure only a small amount of fats are being scrapped off, but also for faster recovery, better fitness and preventing relapse. Other advice is usually specifically related to the post-surgery recovery process such as the wearing of the surgical pad, nutrient and fluid requirement and early movements like walking but not the heavy activity.

With current technology and advanced surgical techniques, this procedure has been proven safe and effective for those who wish to have their dream body. Anyone who is interested in this treatment can know more about it at Liposculpture by Mediviron or by other professionals in Kuala Lumpur.
