The Significance of 420 to the Cannabis Community

April is here, the Cannabis community is once against gearing up for another celebration: Weed Day. If you are wondering why this number became significant in the community, you are in for a treat because here are some facts that make 420 truly an important number for the industry:

The Origins

Some think that 420 is the police radio code for marijuana smoking in progress, while some believe that April 20 is the best date to plant cannabis. Whether these theories have some grain of truth to them or they sprung forth from a stoner’s wandering mind, the fact is 420 is a code made up by a bunch of highschool kids called the Waldos. These boys made a pact to look for a hidden weed farm and they used to meet at 4:20 PM after school. Soon enough, their friends were using this code along with members of the rock band the Grateful Dead who popularized 420.

420 in Legislation

In January 2018, a marijuana bill aptly numbered H.R. 420 was introduced into the United States’ House of Representatives. This bill was a momentous one as it moved to remove marijuana from the list of federally controlled substances and regulate it just like alcohol. Aside from this, the number was also used in California and Rhode Island bills that legalized the use of medical marijuana in the said places.

Cannabidiol Foods Hearing

Besides Easter and Weed Day, April is also a month for celebration as it is the month when the Food and Drug Administration will hold the first public hearing on CBD-infused food and drinks. If you remember, Congress made CBD extracted from hemp legal back in December, however, the FDA forbids companies from using it as an ingredient for food products. This hearing can pave the way towards the cannabinoid becoming legal on the federal level. So, what better way to celebrate this first yet huge step than by smoking some good weed?

This year’s 420 is much more significant because of the recent victories for medical marijuana in many parts of the world including Canada and Thailand. With the hearing and other significant recent events that favour cannabis, we’re sure that there are more wins to come in the future. So, light up a joint or twoin celebration of these victories and Weed Day and unite with the rest of the cannabis community across the globe!
